Supporting procurement professionals in their understanding of the principles of sustainable procurement and how it fits into the wider client sustainability agenda. Focusing on the 3 elements of sustainability, namely social, economic and environment the session will outline practical tools that will support the plan, source manage process as well as focusing on enablers such as supply chain development and engagement.
By the end of the session attendees will:
1) Have a consistent understanding of what sustainability is
2) Be able to identify the key aspects of what a successful sustainable procurement programme looks like
3) Understand some of the tools that can be used as part of procurement strategies, e.g. standards, risk, impact and prioritisation tools, balanced scorecards and KPI’s
4) Have an insight into ISO20400 the international guidance standard on sustainable procurement
5) Be able to discuss with peers their current journey in embedding sustainable procurement through their own procurement process

Helen Carter

Helen Carter has been working in Sustainable Procurement for 20 years. The last 16 years she worked for Action Sustainability where she evaluated organisations against ISO20400, helped develop policies, embed requirements into procurement processes and train key staff at all levels of her clients’ organisations. She was part of the Supply Chain Sustainability School, developing training and guidance materials and delivering coaching and training to partners and their supply chains. More recently she has specialised in Modern Slavery and Human Rights within supply chains and was voted Top 100 influencer in this space. She is currently working as part of the UK delegation to develop ISO32700 a guidance standard for organisations to manage the risk of modern slavery.
