What's the real difference between contract and supplier relationship management?

A few years ago, I did a survey of 1,000 procurement professionals: I asked them what are the top five key aspects of your role? The results were obviously varied depending on the sector, industry, job role, objectives and level. What surprised me was that in 2nd place with 90% of respondents mentioning it was supplier relationship management (only behind supplier selection) and in 17th place was contract management with only 16%. This led to me asking myself a question which is 'What's the real difference between contract and supplier relationship management?' 'is there any real difference?' 'Are they actually the same?'.

This talk is an interactive approach for me to explain some of the answers that I have been able to come up with over the years and to give the audience the opportunity to join the debate. The aspects covered in this talk are: What is it we mean by contract management? What do we really mean by supplier relationship management? How do we use CM and SRM in practice within organisations? How can we create value by effective CM and SRM?
