We shall have a Masterclass of the Cybersecurity and Data Privacy legal frameworks that have been enacted by Parliament into law and how they impact our supply chains as well as how we can implement them in our day-to-day operations.
The discussions shall focus on the Kenyan context, but we shall also tie it to the existing laws available globally like the GDPR.

Becky Kathurima 

Advocate of The High Court of Kenya & Managing Director

BN Kathurima & Company Advocates

Becky Kathurima is a cybersecurity lawyer and a privacy law consultant. An Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and currently managing BN Kathurima & Company Advocates. She has previously worked as a Project lead for training institutions and as an Associate Advocate for corporate law firms.

On a day -to-day basis, Becky assists businesses to protect their digital assets and frontiers, by way of advising and protecting their intellectual property rights through trademarks and copyrights, coming up with elaborate cybersecurity and data protection policies, terms and conditions of use, managing their technical and employment contracts and overall ensuring that they are compliant and up to date with emerging legislation. She is purposeful in sharing cybersecurity awareness knowledge and enjoys doing so, both formally and informally.

One of the highlights of Becky’s cybersecurity law path was making submissions and submitting a Report to the National Computer and Cybercrimes Coordination Committee (NC4) during the stakeholder engagement with regards to the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes (Critical Information Infrastructure and Cybercrime management) Draft Regulations, 2023 and Regulatory Impact Statement on behalf of the Kampus Mentor Lab.

In addition to that, Becky has undertaken specific cybersecurity training and has attained the following qualifications:

1. Cybersecurity Essentials Course by the Cybersafe Foundation (2024)

2. Women in Cybersecurity Mentorship by Standard Chartered Bank and iLaB Africa at Strathmore University (2023)

3. Data Protection Course by the Centre for Intellectual Property and Information

Technology (CIPIT) at Strathmore University (2022)

4. Internet Governance Fellowship by the Kenya School of Internet Governance
