Event Details

This event is to reenergise CIPS South of England Branch to achieve activity, networking and support to the pre pandemic activity/engagement levels.  We are being hosted by Portsmouth University who have a NEW CIPS accredited course, MSc in Strategic Procurement in their 2025 delivery plans.  They will provide an overview of the course to signpost to students and Procurement Leaders the opportunity this course provides for as a valid tool in developing Procurement Professionals of the future.  There is an input opportunity for all, but specifically CPOs to offer Research Projects for the students andextend the learning opportunities for students with links to the local Procurement Community.  

For all active Branch members the opportunity is bring a colleague and your CPO!

Philip Barbazon 

Course Leader, 

Portsmouth University - MSC in Strategic Procurement, Softer Skills for Procurement Professionals

Philip Brabazon graduated in Mechanical Engineering and started as a manufacturing development engineer tackling quality and process improvement projects. Philip moved into the area of operations risk management, focusing on high hazard sectors, where he used quantitative and qualitative risk assessment methods to assist companies and regulators deal with considerable changes, including downsizing, outsourcing, privatisation and new regulations. Philip led the development of the method for “Assessing the safety of staffing arrangements for process operations in the chemical and allied industries” (HSE Contract Research Report 01348) and gave expert testimony to the Ladbroke Grove Rail Inquiry (Part 2) which considered the future organisation and management of the British rail sector. Philip teaches operations management at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and is the course leader for the MSc Strategic Procurement. 

Paul Alexander

Teaching Fellow, Portsmouth University

Paul Alexander Formerly CPO at British Airways and Head of Region for Procurement EMEA at BP. Paul holds an MBA in Business Administration & Management from Lancaster University.  Paul hs most recently been engaged in spot advisory activities including guidance in areas such as sustainability, digitalisation and negotiation and is a committed Educator and Advisor in all matters related to Procurement. Paul is a Teaching Fellow supporting module delivery for the MSc in Strategic Procurement at Portsmouth University

Scott Dance

Senior Client Engagement Director, Hays 

Scott Dance has been working in the recruitment industry with Hays for the past 22 years, with an exceptional network of contacts and relationships across various industries including working with CIPS as an exclusive knowledge partner where he is an affiliate member. His current role is to engage with private and public sector clients to advise on bespoke solutions that include recruitment PSLs, MSP/RPO and Consultancy/SOW. As the UK & I head of Hays Procurement, Supply Chain and Logistics specialisms, he leads the recruitment strategy across our UK & I business as well as supporting Hays Americas and EMEA regions. He have also featured in The Financial Times, Procurement Magazine, Logistics Magazine and Supply Chain Online.
