The event is jointly sponsored by Jamie Chestnutt FRAeS CEng, the RNLI Director of Engineering & Supply, and Russ Armitage FCIPS CEng .

A former FTSE 100 CPO, Russ is a volunteer based in Poole, having served for 8 years on the Technical Committee and acting as the governance on procurement.

The day will include presentations on how the RNLI remains at the forefront to continue to “Saving Lives at Sea”, its future strategy, and the journey to achieving procurement excellence. There will be a tour of the College, with its sea survival pool where crew practice vital lifesaving skills and the boat handling training simulator, and a tour of the lifeboat manufacturing facility, which is not available to the public.

For operational reasons the event is limited to 25 Fellows, so early booking is recommended for what will be an interesting day.

There is a cost of £30 including VAT to attend this event.

The nearest station is Poole railway station, with direct trains from London Waterloo is a few hundred metres from the site.


EVENT SPEAKERS

Jamie Chestnutt FRAeS CEng

Director of Engineering & Supply, RNLI

Jamie was appointed as Director of Engineering and Supply at the RNLI in September 2021, having held previous roles as Technical Director at Chessington World of Adventures and Director of Engineering and Logistics in the Royal Navy for the Commando Helicopter Force.  Jamie’s early Royal Navy career included two years as a search and rescue pilot in Cornwall, several operational tours as an engineer and pilot, and four years as a test pilot on a broad range of military helicopters.

As Director of Engineering and Supply in the RNLI, Jamie is responsible for the design, build and maintenance of all lifeboats and lifeboat stations and the asset management of them, along with the procurement, logistics, warehousing and sustainability for the whole of the RNLI.  Jamie is responsible for three production facilities; the All Weather Lifeboat Centre based in Poole, the Inshore Lifeboat Centre on the Isle of Wight, and a subsidiary company Clayton Engineering in Knighton, Wales.

Jamie is extremely committed to growing and shaping talent of the future, working with the Women’s Engineering Society, EngineeringUK and MakeUK nationally and regional councils and manufacturing companies locally, developing the STEM and engineering apprentice strategies for the Engineering & Supply team and RNLI.


Russ Armitage FCIPS CEng

Procurement Consultant & CIPS Fellows Committee

Russ Armitage is the former CPO of Marconi, GEC and subsequently BAE Systems. He is now a procurement consultant working across high tech organisations.

The founder chair of the CIPS Aerospace & Defence Procurement Group, Russ is a long term member of the CIPS Fellows Committee.

As part of his commitment to pay back by using his experience, Russ is also a volunteer at the RNLI, based at Poole, serving on the Technical Committee and acting as the charity’s governance on procurement.
